Nurses Fired For Taking Pictures?

WISN.com

"There were two nurses that independently took a picture each of an X-ray of a patient," Walworth County Undersheriff Kurt Picknell said.

The patient was admitted to the emergency room with an object lodged in his rectum.

Did they take images of the patient and was the patient identifiable in those images? If we are just talking about images of an X-ray and those images are anonymous, I don't see the problem. If the patient was identifiable and/or identified in the postings of said images, there is more likely a problem here. Taking a picture of an X-ray is kinda common.

One of Dr D's Gals on the Bikini Beat - Before and After

Before:

After:

Bikini Beat Post

This is a gal I operated for a promotion a while back. She sent pictures in a bikini a few weeks afterward. She ultimately looked better once things matured, but was pretty happy even at this early stage.

Blogger Question: "What's With These Boob Implants?"

Gorilla Mask Pic

Dr D - What's with these boob implants on these two girls. The one on the left has round boobs and the other seems more natural-looking.

The gal on the left probably has over the muscle and/or high profile implants. They look more "fake" especially in thin women. The other girl probably has moderate profile "under the muscle" implants. This is something you might want to discuss with your surgeon if you are having breast implants placed.

14 Year Old UK Tanning Booth Burn Case

Daily Mail

A schoolgirl suffered first degree burns over most of her body after just 19 minutes in an unmanned tanning salon.

She put £1 into the coin-operated sunbed at the walk-in salon on a busy high street.

But after four minutes Kirsty felt she was not getting tanned enough so paid a further £3 for another 15 minutes.

A few thoughts:

(1) She is very sensitive to UV light and should not use a tanning both again. She is at increased risk of skin cancer and age related changes over time.

(2) First degree burns are bad sun burns. Hospitalization is virtually never required.

(3) Coin-operated unmanned sun beds? Who thought up this skin cancer-producing Hydra?

Dr D as a Patient - Triceps Repair - Almost 5 Weeks Out

My splint has been off for a few weeks and I can operate.

I am becoming a believer in Arginaid, an L-arginine supplement. I used some post-op and my healing is coming along rapidly. According to my orthopedist, my Range of Motion (ROM) is much better than usual for this type of surgery. It is of course difficult to tell how much is due to the fact that I am healthy and have never smoked.

I have used Arginaid on some of my wound healing patients and it seems to help. I am recommending it more now.

Tameka Foster - Usher's Wife and her Plastic Surgery Nightmare

People

We know that Usher's wife (Tameka Foster) was to have an operation in South America recently and it was aborted due to cardiac arrest. This has been referred to as botched plastic surgery although we do not know if any plastic surgery occurred.

I serve as an expert reviewer on California's Medical Board for plastic surgery cases. In the really rare event that cardiac arrest occurs in any elective surgery case, it is frequently an issue of hypoxia, meaning adequate oxygen wasn't getting to the patient's tissues. This is more likely when the center in which the procedure is being performed is not "up to snuff" on equipment and staff.

Was this the cause in Mrs Foster's case? I don't know. Furthermore, I do not know what the procedure is for investigating such an incident outside of the State of California. As I have said before there are risks to "Surgical Tourism."

Hopefully Mrs Foster will recover well for this unfortunate event. It is my understanding that she had returned to the US at this point.

OctoMom Out of her Web?

TMZ

Nadya Suleman may be out on the streets with her 14 kids. TMZ has documents showing the house she's living in could go on the auction block because the mortgage hasn't been paid in 10 months.

Octo and the little spiderkids may be out in the street unless she can pull a socialist hat trick. Maybe she needs to get on the horn to Mr Obama?

Tom Cruise Visits Plastic Surgeon

Hollyscoop

According to sources at the NY Post, Cruise, who's been staying at the Copacabana Palace, "took a side trip to the private island of plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, who has his own landing strip and a menagerie of exotic animals."

But then again, when you're Tom Cruise, you can afford the best (and most discreet) plastic surgeons in the world. Do you think he had work done?

The word on the vine is that he had his nose done years ago.

OctoMom is nuts.

The Sun

Her interview outtakes, my responses:

However, she does admit she is open to any offers of financial help and says: “If anyone wants to donate, it would be for resources for the kids. I can accept that.

“But I am not in it for the money. Any money is going into a trust for the kids.”

Really like the money you used to get your lips done before your delivery when you already had six kids? Who paid for your plastic surgery?
---

“Boyfriends? I think I’d have to be extremely selfish. I cannot maintain a social life and be a mother.

You have 14 children you can't afford to feed, clothe, and educate without assistance and you talk about not being selfish?
---

She says: “There were letters and emails saying we deserved to die. There were protesters in front of my house. There are mentally disturbed people in the world.”

Yes, and you may indeed be one of them.
---

Our welfare system supports this and unfortunately our medical system created it. It is not fair to the people of California or the children. I believe before a woman has fertility treatments in California an assessment should be made of her ability to support the proposed offspring without public assistance. At present she has the right to make you pay for her family such as it is.

Marijuana - California's Salvation?

The BigMoney

Marijuana is California's largest cash crop. It's valued at $14 billion annually, or nearly twice the value of the state's grape and vegetable crops combined, according to government statistics.

But the state doesn't receive any revenue from its cash cow. Instead, it spends billions of dollars enforcing laws pegged at shutting down the industry and inhibiting marijuana's adherents.

I have never been a pot head. Never smoked it. Not interested, but I've thought of this too. Legalize it and tax the hell out of it.

Female Boxer Banned Because of Breast Implants

Fox News

Sarah Blewden, 25, of Poole, Dorset in England, told the newspaper that boxing officials will no longer allow her to fight because they fear repeated blows to the chests would ruin her false breasts and “damage her breast tissue.”

So I guess boxers in England may want to steer clear of breast implants.

Octomom had Plastic Surgery?

AOL News

Neighbors told the New York Post that Suleman went to a plastic surgeon for collagen injections just before giving birth to the octuplets.

"I saw her just before she went in and her lips were huge," one neighbor said.

Neighbors told the paper that her lip swelling had come down considerably by the time she gave her first interview, to Ann Curry for NBC's 'Today' show.

This is why we need a welfare system? Our system is so broken.

Dr D's Triceps Injury Story Hits CNN

Not exactly the way I'd like to be featured in CNN, but it might help someone else out. This opens a little like the article I've written about the event. I am pitching that piece to a men's health magazine as we speak, so you may be reading it soon.

Silicone Injections Are Not A Good Idea - 2 Injured

FoxNews

Andrea Lee, 30, suffered total kidney failure after receiving the injections at a private home in the community of Town ‘N Country. Her friend Zakiya Teagle, 33, is also in a critical condition.

Sharhonda Lindsay of Tampa is wanted for practicing medicine without a license. A warrant for her arrest was issued Monday, according to the Web site.

Silicone injections are not good medicine and in fact are illegal. You won't find them in your board certified plastic surgeon's office. If someone offers you injections in your home, check out those credentials first.

Sheyla Hershey Sets Breast Implant Record

AOL Hot Searches

A Houston woman is now the proud owner of the world's largest breast implants. After undergoing a reported nine breast augmentation surgeries, Sheyla Hershey says she broke the world record with her new size 38KKK breasts. Hershey flew back to her home country of Brazil for the most recent breast enlargement because US plastic surgeons legally can't implant breast enhancements of that size.

What they didn't state here is that few US plastic surgeons would want the liability of placing such large implants. In the US, we get sued when things go wrong. Large implants increase that chance.

Facial Plastic Surgeon Accused of Sexual Abuse

Tracy Press

The 13-year medical practitioner faces 11 felony charges based on allegations that he sexually abused several women between September 2007 and December last year.

California Medical Board records show that Chi reached three legal settlements, in May 2006, April 2007 and June 2008. An accusation against him was filed in July last year.

Three settlements in three years? Something is up with this guy.

Potential patients need to check out their prospective surgeon a bit.
