Perhaps the only place you will find a plastic surgeon presenting a balanced Op-Ed dialogue on plastic and cosmetic surgery....and whatever else crosses his mind.
You gotta love Joe Torre. He is an obviously accomplished baseball manager, but more than that. He has integrity. When people complain about the content of his book, he stands behind it.
He is a man of yesterday. In days gone by, we didn't have political correctness and apologies and retractions every time someone got their feelings hurt. Torre describes his book as "an honest account of his time managing the high-profile club."
Why should he change a word? I like the truth. I would like to see more of it.
Breast Implant Fringe Element Live on The Internet
Almost a year ago I posted a video response to a gal on YouTube who claimed that saline breast implants ruined her life. My point was and has always been that these things may happen rarely with silicone gel implants, but I have not seen a case with saline implants. Now that is in over ten years of practice in hundreds of breast implant cases. Take into account that the vast majority of plastic surgeons do not agree with this statement.
Quite recently there have been a number of comments on that YouTube video including:
Please, Dr. Di Saia, try not to be so hard on these women. Cut them some slack-- you obviously can continue to enjoy your life without the burden of illness. I doubt being compassionate will negatively impact you economically.
The internet can be a great place for people to gather, but it also allows really small groups to amass and seem like they are larger than they are. The statistics these women cite are simply impossible, obviously being exaggerated for effect. My statements are my experience without economic bias. Being compassionate is not to agree to ridiculous exaggeration.
Hot Maxim cover girl Monica Hansen is suing a plastic surgeon for using pictures of her to advertise on his website. According to the lawsuit, Hansen claims her doc, Dr. Leonard M. Hochstein, splashed pictures of her all across his website without her permission.
- Come on Lenny, you know you have to get permission if she is recognizable.
Update 1/28/09 - Dr. Hochstein called to clarify the story:
He stated that he feels blindsided by this legal action having known Ms Hansen for many years. He always obtains permission from his patients before their images appear on his site and did so on multiple occasions in this case. Ms Hansen even approved which images could be used before they were placed, according to the doctor.
Too much soft tissue filler can look pretty awful. This is one of the reasons I do so little of it anymore. I have virtually eliminated soft tissue fillers from my practice. I do not want to make deformed lips or anything else. My practice is not a Trout Pout factory.
We see too much negativity online. This gal had a moderate volume liposuction to her thighs (the area called the saddlebags) and five weeks later looks nicely improved. Moderation is the key in most plastic surgery planning. The results of conservatively planned plastic surgery withstand the changes of time much better than when we target extremes.
A Costa Mesa cosmetologist was charged Thursday with practicing medicine without a license after she allegedly caused second-degree burns while attempting cosmetic surgery on a tummy tuck scar with a laser.
You gotta love this one: a lady gets burned when allowing a Cosmetologist to use a laser to treat her tummy tuck scar. When you want a scar treated maybe look into a plastic surgeon for a scar revision?
Here's 54-year-old Laura (left) back at the beginning of her husband's presidency in 2001 -- and the 62-year-old refreshed version (right) two weeks ago.
Well upper eyelid skin doesn't just spontaneously recede. She's certainly had some facial work and it looks pretty good.
Star Jones flaunts her bikini body in some sparkly white threads while vacationing in St. Bart’s earlier this month.
Star did get bagged by one of my favorite irreverent bloggers for gaining weight again, but I doubt you would have seen her in a bikini before her surgery. Improvement is improvement. A common pattern of laparoscopic gastric bypass scars can be seen here for those interested. Her bikini may be hiding a body lift scar too but it too well-placed to tell for sure.
Added to Blanchett’s own stance on the matter of plastic surgery is that of her husband, 42-year old Andrew Upton. The film director, according to his wife, threatens to divorce her if she gives in to the knife’s call. However, Blanchett is happy with the changes her children have brought to her body and has no plans to “eradicate it.”
Really? I wonder if I believe this. So her husband would deny her any plastic surgery even to correct changes of childbirth and threaten divorce if she were to have any. This is sad if true.
Suspicious minds abound because it is not as if we don’t suspect that Coulter fiddles with her face - nary a line or a droopy jowl on her 46-year-old skin.
Could Coulter be getting her face in shape for her upcoming book and TV tour to promote her newest tome “GUILTY” — a bash-fest of the media’s love affair with liberals?
This one is very likely and I haven't looked at many images. She is in the media and about to mount a media campaign for a new book. No wrinkles and in her fourties with skin of Northern European descent (by the looks of things).
Yes to Botox and probably some other plastic surgical goodies. This time all based on statistics.
Maybe Ann is guilty in getting ready to promote "Guilty?"
One tying is for sure: Liberals really go into a frenzy over her. You gotta love that.
[T]heir ranks are dwindling, The Washington Post (NYSE:WPO) says, caused in large part by educational, medical and sociological forces.
I already told you the reasons are lifestyle and money, simply put. Few surgeons want to live a general surgeon's lifestyle and get paid like a plumber. I see some surgeons paid $200 to wake up at 3:00 am and perform surgery. That is a joke!
Formerly double boarded surgeons like myself are not re certifying because of the expense and hassle. Why should we?
I went to Borders today and looked over Orange Coast magazine. The "Top Docs" section is as usual an "advertorial." Do people realize for a doctor to be featured in this section he or she needs to pay advertising rates?
As usual most of the better docs in the OC are not listed. A few of the docs listed are pretty horrible. Be careful if you are actually trying to use this list.

"Dr D" is a board certified plastic surgeon in Orange County, Ca who specializes in "Body Work"...Breast and Body Contouring, but does a fair amount of "real medicine" (reconstruction.) This blog is designed to entertain as well as educate the potential plastic surgery patient. We do "celebrity surgery analysis" for kicks as well.
