Breast Implant Revision Testimonial Clip

I have never really known what to think about testimonial stuff, but a patient of mine did this one for me regarding the work I did for her. I think for what it is it turned out pretty well. Give me your feedback if you wish. Civil comments will be allowed.

Tattoo gets Breast Implants?

TMZ

This seems too funny to be true. A guy got his tattoo of a busty woman on his leg breast implants. Then they got infected.

Jordan's Nipple Slip - Geez.

Pics

Jordan just had surgery people. Close up images of a nipple after surgery take time to improve. It is called "healing." What do you all expect? Of course things look funky a few weeks after surgery. This is one of the reasons to keep from having monster-sized breast implants in the first place. This was secondary surgery to downsize requiring a lift operation which is one of the things we try to avoid. Everyone needs to chill.

She probably did the nipple slip on purpose. The reaction is in that light likely welcomed by her.

Breast Implants Online - How to Choose.

This gal likely has high profile implants. She probably wanted to look like a porn star.

Type "Breast Implants" into your search engine of choice and you'll find yourself hurled into a menagerie of porn sites, special interest group sites and plastic surgery ads. It is more dense than it was more than twelve years ago when I put up my first plastics site, Plastic Surgery Interactive. Nevertheless, it seems the misconceptions about breast implants continue. Cosmetic breast surgery can be performed to limit risk and make lasting good results.

Still patients with 30 Year Old Bags are probably best advised to at least have them changed for newer models.

For the woman entertaining cosmetic breast implants however, it can be done with a long term goal in mind. There are a two main items to consider:

(1) How large do you want to be? If you want to be quite large, plan on having more surgery over the course of your lifetime. There is a size point at which your tissue simply cannot contain the implants. At this point you start looking more and more "fake." Interesting in this discussion is that some women want that appearance in the first place. That is OK, but consider that your choice puts you into "I'll likely need more surgery" category.

(2) Implant type/shape/style - silicone gel versus saline. High versus moderate profile versus anatomic. If you want to look like a porn star, then you generally go as large as you can and choose a high profile implant. Silicone gel versus saline is a matter of opinion. I generally still advise saline unless the patient is going quite large.

If you look at the statistics in the implant literature, you see that a 1/3rd of patients are reported to have undergone additional breast surgery over a three year period. This is substantially reduced by limiting implant size and choosing a qualified surgeon. These are your choices. In my practice the re-operation rate is less than 7% over more than ten years.

Make sure you are doing this for yourself. Men don't know the difference between real and nicely done implanted breasts anyway. Look at this poll if you care what men tend to think about the issue. They vary.

The Hate Dr Di Saia Hotline?

Today I received this fine e-mail:

FirstLastName = dr reality
Email =
Message = i find it interesting that loud mouth plastic surgeons never have anything done to themselves.

why don't you try some lipo, chubby?

and that picture of you---do you think you should wear anything OTHER than a T-SHIRT?

Now I know how Sean Hannity feels. Maybe I should start the "Hate Dr Di Saia" hotline?

I figure that this is the prank of some frustrated individual upset as his/her falsehoods are blown by the truth read here. Personal attacks mean you can't argue my content. That is success. Thank-you.

Congress Probes Lipator Pitchman Jarvik

New York Times

This is actually pretty funny. Advertising often deceives. That's pretty much what it is supposed to do: make you feel positively towards a product any way it can. This is one of the reasons that I have not been very good at it.

Any doctor can proscribe Lipator although internists usually do.

Then again statements like this from Dr Jarvik:

"I accepted the role of spokesman for Lipitor because I am dedicated to the battle against heart disease, which killed my father at age 62 and motivated me to become a medical doctor," it said. "I believe the process of educating the public is beneficial to many patients, and I am pleased to be part of an effort to reach them."

These just make my BS-meter go off. Given he really can't say:

"I did the ads because it netted me a boat load of cash!"

This would be the truth wouldn't it?

Crazy Phone Call of the Week

Is there a full moon out?

This week a woman called whom I had not seen before. She had had breast implants done by another surgeon and she felt one had deflated. As she was soon to embark on a trip to Hawaii, she wanted to know if I would perforate and deflate the other implant with a needle.

The answer is "No" and here is why:

(1) Liability! - I have no idea what kind of implant is in there. If it is silicone gel perforating it may be followed by problems, not to mention no deflation. Even if it is a saline implant, an infection may follow any procedure. I could be blamed for that. Any cosmetic irregularity following such an unorthodox procedure could also be blamed on me again if I was crazy enough to do that.

We offered to remove and replace her implants. She declined. I wonder if she will find a doctor to do that which she is requesting. Sadly the answer is likely to be "Yes." I hope she turns out OK.

Paris Hilton has a bit of a lazy eye in these pictures. Could this be a little extra Botulinum toxin or is it a long-standing problem for her?

Plastic Surgery Nightmares

Hollywood Rag (with scans)

Hollywood Rag has a post on "Plastic Surgery Nightmares." The first is the Donda West death. OK, that is a nightmare, but the rest of these are more like "too much surgery/ funky outcomes." Those are really not nightmares. Then again they need to sell papers.

Lifestyle Lift - a forum thread

A LSL thread

I try to avoid most marketing gimmicks particularly if they lend themselves to unreasonable expectations. In my opinion the Lifestyle Lift is a marketing gimmick. First of all, there is no surgical procedure called a "Lifestyle lift." These are essentially mini-facelift procedures performed in many cases by surgeons with little experience trying to inexpensively and under little anesthesia improve the face. This formula can lead to disaster.

Nevertheless, the link above is to a forum where Lifestyle lift patients rave and flame about it. Participate if you wish.
