What Happened to Victoria Beckham's Breast Implants?

Seriously? OMG! features a post today on Posh Spice's breast implants presenting the opinion that they have been removed.


I'd bet Posh had silicone gel implants placed many years ago and they had developed capsular contracture or hardening. These scar capsules were likely removed and the implants replaced. Significant contracture like this is one of the risks of silicone gel-filled implants that occurs more frequently than with their saline-filled counterparts.

Dr Jan Adams Speaks like a Politician

There is not much new lately on the Dr Jan Adams story. He speaks like a politician in that he says very little when he speaks here to ET. His lawyer probably has advised a little silence I would wager.

In the video clip, Harvey Levin really should limit his discussion in medical matters. For him to say the operation should have taken four hours is pretty irresponsible. We don't even know what exactly the operation entailed as of yet, but a breast reduction and tummy tuck with liposuction could have easily taken eight hours if done carefully. That's why many of us would have staged the surgery breaking it into smaller portions to limit the anesthesia time and post-operative pain.

On his comments vis a vis the recovery center, these centers really do not check into medical clearance. That is the surgeon's job. I do not know if Dr Adams has a good relationship with any such centers however.

Kevin Dubrow Passes Away

Seriously OMG

For those familiar with 80's rock bands, Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot fame recently passed away of unknown causes. This one has very little to do with plastic surgery except his brother is a plastic surgeon who I just recently met. My condolences to the whole Dubrow family. Kevin was far too young to go.

Britney Spears Denied Plastic Surgery?

Britney Spears apparently saw a plastic surgeon and was not offered surgery when she requested nasal and breast work. I wonder how this information was obtained. It violates privacy laws if she didn't consent to its release.

Dr Jan Adams and Patient Selection in Plastic Surgery

Apparently Dr Jan Adams made a statement to People regarding a number of malpractice suits against him. If I read the quotation correctly, I find myself agreeing with him to an extent:

Adams also tells People (in its latest issue) that the 11 malpractice suits uncovered by TMZ in the last week don't represent his deficiencies as a surgeon, but instead, "represent a bad decision in terms of choice of patient."

One of the most difficult things for people to understand in health care seems to be the fact that bad outcomes and malpractice suits do not always constitute poor or negligent care. Often the choice to operate upon an inappropriate patient is the surgeon's biggest mistake. Some people are in poor health, smoke and/or take poor care of themselves or simply have unrealistic expectations. These are often "no win propositions" for the surgeon.

Needless to say, it sometimes costs me cold hard cash to do the right thing and say I won't operate.

Kellie Pickler denies she had breast augmentation (at least the last time I heard.) She apparently went on some kind of game show at which she matched wits with a 5th grader. Maybe she forgot about getting her implants? After this clip I might believe that. This video puts the impression of women with breast implants back thirty years.

Dr Jan Adams Wound Healing Problem Case on TMZ

TMZ published images of another tummy tuck and breast lift/reduction patient of Dr Adams. She has the appearance of moderate to severe wound healing problems.

Although it is easy to just slam the good doctor here like everyone else, the fact is that these operations have risk. Although I would probably have done things differently I cannot know looking at a bunch of images if either technique or poor patient selection may have affected the outcome. Did the patient smoke? Cigarette smoking really puts a damper on healing from breast lift/reduction and tummy tuck surgery in particular. If the patient were a smoker, this kind of thing could have happened to any surgeon at least in the latest "images-included" case.

Yep, a bunch of the television plastic surgeons aren't board-certified in plastic surgery. Maybe something good will come of the tragic story of Donde West.

Donda West Autopsy

Well questions regarding the care Mrs West received will be coming soon: Was she a reasonable candidate for surgery? She may have died of an abnormal heart rhythm or something equally difficult to find. Toxicology is reportedly pending. As a man with a close relationship with his own mother, I feel for Mr West. As a plastic surgeon and California Medical Board reviewer, I am curious as to what happened here.

Kanye West's Mother Dead after Cosmetic Surgery

"Donda West, 58, died Saturday at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina del Rey after she stopped breathing at her home. The coroner's office said an initial investigation shows West may have died from surgical complications. An autopsy was scheduled to be done by Wednesday.

[Dr Jan] Adams told the celebrity Web site TMZ that he performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on but denied any wrongdoing. He said she might have died from a heart attack, pulmonary embolism or massive vomiting."

Dr Jan Adams is the "Plastic Surgery: Before and After" show host. According to his web site he was trained in both general and plastic surgery, but according to the American Board of Medical Specialist's web site he is not board certified.

The California Medical Board website shows two malpractice awards against him each in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This story is still in evolution.

The Military &Cosmetic Surgery in my Practice

My friends have been saying for a long time that I should make a bigger deal publicly about that which I do for the military in my practice. I am probably the only plastic surgeon that discounts his fee in any substantial way for large cosmetic operations (at least in my area) to the wives of active military or the military themselves.

This may seem insignificant to some, but the recipients of this little benefit have been pretty happy.

I am not in the military. I am not paid by the military. I am just a citizen giving back to those in uniform my way.

It seemed appropriate to post this on Veterans Day.

Kim Kardashian, Playboy and Labiaplasty Questions

I really see some hilarious online comments. Kim Kardashian appears in Playboy and like many women who choose to do so has decided not to show her genitals. Someone commented online postulating that maybe the reason was she didnt like the way her labia looked and may benefit from a labiaplasty. It was probably a joke.

Then again, it is hard to conceive that the woman would want any privacy at all after all the press she has received. She must actively seek it out to get that much. Right?

It's a funny question nevertheless. Is this vagina week online? Geez.

A Breast Lift that Likely Won't.

Another system has entered the market that claims to end the desire for cosmetic breast surgery. There have been others before and there will probably be more to follow. I can't see how this system will lift anything. The bit about adding fat for breast reconstruction is likely malpractice particularly in a cancer patient. Be very careful here folks.

Breast-feeding may not lead to Droopy Breasts

According to a new study, breast-feeding may not lead to droopy breasts. The study featured a relatively small number of women. IT does indicate that smoking might lead to droopy breasts but with the small number in the study (136) I wouldn't say it is conclusive either way.
