Surgical Tourism Story on AOL

AOL

You will save money on these foreign country cosmetic trips that is unless you have a complication. The negatives are quality control, recourse and management of problems should you have any. I would not advise having a large scale operation there requiring much post-operative care. Those are the cases in which risk may exceed benefit. American surgeons will likely not be available if you have problems as the liability for them is large.

As with anything patients should evaluate risk versus benefit to come to a decision.

How about that? I feel like Rodney Dangerfield.

Anybody read French or know how to make a .pdf from a web page?

Lipodissolve - One Happy Camper Blogs

Her MySpace Blog

An Arizona mom and bounty hunter claims that Lipodissolve worked for her. She blogs on it. Well that's one. If it is so great, they should design a study to prove it. I have really not been impressed with mesotherapy this far. Then again I only see patients who have had problems and none so far with this "brand" of mesotherapy.

Jenna Jameson Implant Removal/Exchange

Pic Source

US Magazine reports that Jenna Jameson has removed her breast implants. This is actually pretty common in women who had large implants after they age or lose a good deal of weight. The bigger question of whether she had smaller ones put back in was not addressed in the piece I read (online version). With her recently acquired slighter build, she looks much better without the large implants.

Doctor builds new, more natural vagina

MSNBC

An Italian doctor has used stem cells to make a vagina for two women born without one. I wonder if he gets the flack I get for reducing lips.

Ivanka Trump's Implants Have Settled

Pic Source

Ivanka Trump looked kinda unusual a few months ago right after she had reportedly had breast augmentation. This is pretty common. It also started the usual blog frenzy accusing her of having had a bad boob job. Well here she is a few months later. Things have settled and she looks pretty good. Hopefully she will not give in to the temptation to "go bigger" as over the long term this causes more problems.

"Fake" US Plastic Surgeons - How to Spot Them - Part I

Surfing the web today I found some advertisements that were a laugh! The experience reminded me that it has been a while since we revisited the subject of how someone might screen a prospective plastic surgeon. This is a matter of opinion of course. I use the standard of whether or not a surgeon would be offered privileges by a hospital credentialing committee to do your surgery. Try a few simple online checks:

(1) Look to see that your surgeon is qualified to do your operation:

-Did he or she complete a plastic surgery residency?
-Is he or she board certified in plastic surgery by a board that is itself accredited?

There are doctors out practicing plastic surgery with little or no formal training in plastic surgery.

-> Check the American Board of Medical Specialists Web Site and run a search to see if your doctor has an approved Board Certification and in what specialty. If it is not in Plastic Surgery, you need more information.

(2) Look to see that your surgeon has not been disciplined by the state medical board or lost or settled lawsuits involving large numbers. Many state medical boards have web sites that offer searches.

-> Example for California

My surfing today revealed a surgeon who is board certified in radiology (that means he is trained to read x-rays) and an "Institute" site with a number of surgeons most of whom had no certification information listed. Be careful.

Plastic Surgery Mistake #1 - Choosing the Wrong Place

AOL News

Cosmetic surgery problems are far more likely when those providing them are poorly trained or untrained. Just be careful and you will fare better.

A User reports on 1800beyourbest.com

Makemeheal.com Post

Cheap cosmetic surgery may not be. Read the fine print.

I do not involve my practice with online financing companies for the most part. Patient/Surgeon anxiety is best avoided.

Inland Empire California Plastic Surgery Lawsuit - Watch Your Surgeon

Source

Sometimes it amazes me how little patients look into the prospective plastic surgeon. This guy is accused of using dirty breast implants and a performing a "bad tummy tuck."

I review for the California Medical Board and am happy I didn't review this case. It sounds like a court case will occur for sure here.
