Coming Soon - Redo Boob Job of the Month

I've decided (pending blogger input) to run a little series of breast implant re-operation "Before" and "Afters." The reasons here are multiple:

(1) By doing this we can indicate how to minimize complications. This may help those considering "first time" surgery to keep their own problems to a minimum.

(2) We can also show those with perhaps sub-optimal results that improvement might be possible.

The plan will be to proceed after giving you an opportunity to vote Yay or Nay.

Katie Price and Her Natural-Looking Breasts?

Katie Price recently indicated that she was looking for a "fake-looking American-style boob job." Here's where she currently stands. What do you all think?

The Star's Bikini Bods Article at the Skinny

Star Story Pics

The Skinny has a post on the Stars's Bikini Bods article. The Star provides photos and commentary and I of course am not too far behind:

(1) Courtney Love - She probably had the gastric bypass and a few procedures for the sagging skin. It tends to stretch back out to an extent in extreme weight loss patients. It might need extension/revision.

(2) John Travolta - Needs a diet/exercise program before any surgical consideration.

(3) Kate Hudson's tummy skin is saggy from childbirth. She looks to be a great tummy tuck candidate. She has little if any fat to lose.

Heather Locklear Looking Good

Pic Source

Derek Hail has a post on Heather Locklear today and for 46 she looks great. She probably had her breasts done years ago, but other than that I am not too certain of her use of plastic surgery. Nevertheless, she is looking great in a bikini.

Ellen Barkin Worried About Scarlet Johansson's Looks

Pic Source
Story Source

Sexy ELLEN BARKIN fears for SCARLETT JOHANSSON's looks because she doesn't think the pretty LOST IN TRANSLATION star will age well.

Barkin tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "I look at that gorgeous little Scarlett Johansson and I think, 'Oh, my God, what is that girl going to look like when she's a woman?'"

Well, let's see: If Scarlet stays away from the cigarettes and the sun, her face may faire well. Ellen according to the Female Celebrity Smoking List smokes cigarettes and cigars. That might help explain her own "wrinkle burden:"

Katie Price Wants A "Fake" Boobjob

HollyScoop

Reality show star Katie 'Jordan' Price is already planning on having major plastic surgery after she gives birth to her third child.
Price said, "(my breasts) have already gone saggy after three children so I want them perking up and made smaller.

"They'll still be big but not as big and I'm going to go for the fake-looking American-style boob job. I really love that. And I'm going to get my mouth done too.

I love this. How much more "fake" looking can you make those things? When you go this large you get re-operative surgery...a lot of re-operative surgery over time.

"I'm going to have my fanny (vagina) done, too. I want to be a virgin again. That'll be a treat for Pete."

Scary. I do reduction labiaplasty, but am not a fan of surgery inside the vagina. We don't want to make her experience with vaginoplasty like that of Jenna Jameson.

Labiaplasty in the News

The Independent

A new piece on labiaplasty or "designer vagina" hit the bricks. In my practice, I stay out of the vagina to keep the complications to a minimum, but other surgeons may not. I am curious as to the procedure executed on the reportedly unhappy Jenna Jameson.

As we have discussed before, reduction of large or "droopy" lips is pretty safe if properly planned and executed. This is where I go with the operation in my practice.

The discussion following this piece includes another misguided individual comparing the operation to female genital mutilation, but this is pretty common.

Crazy Phone Call of the Week

Last week we had a few really hilarious phone calls, but the funniest person was one who I had seen for a cosmetic consult six months prior. She called to inform us that she had seen some other surgeons after seeing me and their surgical fees for liposuction were lower. Lisa, my office gal, had a look on her face that I really should have photographed as she spoke with this lady.

The woman went on to say she really wants me to do her surgery but has decided to only have liposuction and not liposuction along with laser re-surfacing. She then proceeded to tell us how she was going to have it for a fraction of that which we originally quoted by giving herself a multiple procedure discount (without multiple procedures) and eliminating anesthesia fees by having it under local.

While I understand that cosmetic surgery is expensive, it is laughable to think that any reputable surgeon will comply with a phone call of this sort. It makes little sense to defend my fee structure to a woman like this, but there are many types of doctors who perform liposuction including dermatologists, gynecologists and other non-plastic surgeons. These doctors tend to offer it for less. Then again they tend to do it in their offices with poor equipment and lighting. They did not attend residency programs to train them how to operate. If you want it cheap, call them.

B.T.W. As we have said before, over-eaters and those with unstable weight are more likely to have less-than-wonderful results with liposuction.

Smart Money 2007 Piece

SmartMoney.

Ten or so years ago I was foolish enough to speak to a writer from Smart Money magazine writing a precursor version of the new piece linked above....10 Things Your Plastic Surgeon Won't Tell You

While in a basic sense I agree that some of their points are not entirely off the mark, most are exercises in hyperbole similar to the piece in which I was quoted almost ten years ago. The basic inference is that plastic surgeons lie to their patients or hype their results. I don't.

Melanie "Griffin" - Too Much Surgery?

Source

We have covered the concept of "Bad Plastic Surgery" before. Hollywood.com ran a piece the other day entitled "Just How Much Is Too Much Plastic Surgery?" with this Melanie Griffith image. Looking at Ms Griffith (obviously called Griffin on the source site as a joke) and comparing her current state of affairs to images from years ago is unfair. Few women have plastic surgery when they look that good (at least in my practice).

The real question is what did she look like before she had a particular procedure.

OK. Has she had too much? Probably.

Her lips appear to be one of her biggest problems. Hopefully, she used a reversible filler like Captique (and not silicone) and can just wait until it goes away. I have not seen her face in animation for a while. It is in movement that overly-operated faces look the worst. Does anybody know if she was or is a cigarette smoker?

Dutch Woman Dies After Liposuction

Dutch News.

A 21-year-old woman has died after undergoing liposuction to remove fat from her waist and thighs at a private clinic in Utrecht. The cause of death is not yet known but is under investigation by health inspectors.

Liposuction is a safe procedure when done properly but any surgery has risk. The question here is whether or not the operation was appropriately chosen and performed. Any surgery done incorrectly or by untrained personnel is dangerous. We'll see if information is forthcoming in this case.

Kellie Pickler and Celeb Plastic Surgery Slideshow

AOL

AOL has a bit on the Kellie Pickler denial as well as a celebrity plastic surgery slideshow of sorts.

The time between the images in this slideshow can be a problem as it spans years in some cases. People do visibly age before their plastic surgery when that much time is involved. It does make the change from the surgery itself hard to figure.

Kellie Pickler Denies Her Implants

Kellie Pickler doesn't want to admit she had breast augmentation. OK.

But she may not want to go on a radio show to talk about it. She sounded kinda dense on Ryan Seacrest's show or at least some thought so.

Michael Moore and his Health Scare Flick

BlueStarChronicles

Michael Moore is making a movie about health care. I take "everything Michael Moore" with a huge grain of salt. He is smart however. He conveniently forgot to get the appropriate paperwork for a trip to Cuba and is now claiming the US government is out to get him.

I believe this was all planned for some cheap publicity. It will likely work. I simply watch the spectacle and not his films.

Best Regards,

John Di Saia MD

P.S. To my knowledge Michael Moore has not received any plastic surgery.

Titanium-coated Breast Implants?

MSN.

Titanium-coated breast implants may also be an option in the future.

Researchers are hopeful that by coating the shell, the implant will be more resistant to infection, stronger and will produce less scarring and capsular contracture, a condition that occurs when scar tissue forms around the implant and results in painful stiffness of the breast and possible leakage of the substance inside the implant.

The silicone gel breast implant story is far from over. I still recommend saline-filled breast implants to my patients who are looking for fewer problems over the lifetime of the devices. There are limitations, but I see the chance for re-operation is less with saline.

OJ's Lawyer On OJ's "Steak Night"

AOL News.

Simpson's attorney, Yale Galanter, said the incident was about race, and he intended to pursue the matter and possibly go after the restaurant's liquor license.

"He screwed with the wrong guy, he really did," Galanter said by telephone Tuesday night.

I guess OJ's attorney doesn't believe in the owner's right to serve those he chooses. Racism is a predictable claim when you have nothing else.

This is an easy PR bonanza for Ruby. Good for him.

Jeff Ruby, owner of the steakhouse Jeff Ruby’s Louisville, asked O.J. Simpson to leave his restaurant minutes after Simpson arrived about 10:30 Friday night.

Told by a customer that the former football player had arrived at the restaurant, 325 W. Main St., Ruby said, he informed Simpson, “I am not serving you.”

Jeff Ruby, you are OK with me.

Obituary of Mr. Common Sense

Obituary of Mr. Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and Maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6 -year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Calpol, sun lotion or a band-aid to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge monetary settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. His three stepbrothers survive him; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Thanks to Kim and Kendra for this one....
