CNN StoryI only wish. In other areas of business, it is OK for a person to be involved in a business relationship with an allied product or company. For some reason in health care, it is forbidden. While I see the point if the product is inferior and being used because of the financial bias, most often this is not the case.
Doctors used to own laboratories and make money from that relationship. With that came the responsibility of making sure the lab was up to snuff. I would change the legal twist to say it is OK if you profit, but the service must be as good if not better than the alternatives. There should also be no evidence that the services were ordered when not needed. With these provisions, let the doctor own the laboratory.
In the case of this CNN story, it is unclear as to whether the quality of the care suffered because of these supposed relationships.
Face it people: if we dod not allow a pathway for those that have endured years of education to prosper at the end of this training, we will have no more quality medicine in this country. We are headed that way. Do you really want to arrive?

P.S. At this time I have no such relationships, but think it is silly that these kinds of restrictions exist in healthcare and few if any other industries.
